2014-06-22 One of 15 Hong Kong polling stations for today's unofficial referendum on democracy: Saint Paul's, Yau Ma Tei
I voted at 6.32pm ....can say the time precisely, because I showed my HK ID card at 6.32, then after my card details were recorded, I went to a booth to press three buttons on a computer pad, and as I left the polling station the time had not moved on from 6.32. This is the way of the future. No more pencils and paper. And as votes were recorded, they were automatically tallied by a central computer ....which added to the excitement this day and the day before by letting HK people know how many votes had been cast at any given time. There was great excitement as they tally went to 200,000 yesterday, then to 550,000 overnight, and by the end of June 22 the figure was around 680,000.
