January 26, 2017 - Lusaka, Zambia
Live Mass at Yatsani
radio station (99.1 FM), managed for Lusaka diocese by Fr Singini O.M.I.
(photos taken at end of Mass)
Then Brother Max O.M.I. and I were interviewed for one hour by morning show host Steven, talking about the danger of drug trafficking to Hong Kong
After which Brother Max took be to the nearby Mary Immaculate O.M.I. parish where a striking sign above the crucifix caught my eye
Goodbye and thank you Brother Max O.M.I. for all your help and kindness
In the afternoon, on
the way to the airport for my flight to Dubai, Fr Freeborn O.M.I. arranged a
meeting with prison visitors at Good Shepherd parish where a table cloth caught
my attention.
Fr Freeborn explained that some years ago, the Zambian Bishops' Conference
instructed all parishes in the country to establish "Basic
Communities" ...divide each parish geographically into small groups
...and the names on the cloth are the names of the basic groups in Good Shepherd
parish. If every parish in the world followed this model, the Church would be so
blessed. (Disclosure: I tried setting up such basic groups when I was on Lantau
Island parish in Hong Kong) . I just checked Google...not just Zambia, but most
of Africa follows the basic community model ...and in fact the
model began in Africa before Vatican II!
