2003 Hong Kong - Tokwawan - Ann and her dear Mother
True Story: One afternoon in about June 1994, when I was on a street corner giving
out sheets for Notre Dame English Club, a little girl aged 5 in a bright red
dress was playing outside the shop where her aunt worked. That day I was by
myself, no other helpers available....so (with the permission of her aunt) I
asked the little girl to help me give out sheets. She was only too keen to help
...and was a big hit with the passers-by. When the time came for her to go
home she cried at not be able to help me any more....she wanted to keep helping.
When I returned the English trolley (see link above) back to Notre Dame, I got
an English Club tea shirt and took it back to the aunt's shop as a thank you to
the little girl.....and heard how the family had been unsuccessful in applying
for the little girl to begin school in September at the nearby Oblate Primary
School.
When Fr Stan (the Oblate Primary School Supervisor) heard all this he kindly
made an extra place for the little girl....with the name Anne....and she became
an OMI student.....and a very good one at that....
After finishing at the Oblate Primary School, Anne went to St Rose of
Lima Secondary School and is now in Form 3.
Last night when I saw her (for the first time in 3 years) I heard how in Form 2
she came 9th overall in the four Form 2 classes, and came 1st in her own class
overall and for English. In fact her English is really good.....and she
regularly takes part in many extra-curricular English activities.
I'm hoping that Anne can be a tour guide for HK visitors (when studies
permit)....starting with 4 Iona boys due tomorrow night!
